DAPCHI: OPM Awards Scholarship, House to Christian Girl In Boko Haram Captivity

Scholarship to any level of education, relocation of parents and a gift of three bedroom apartment

Omega Power Ministries (OPM), a christian denomination with headquarters in Rivers state has awarded a scholarship to Leah Sharibu, the only student still being held captive out of the 110 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in Dapchi town on February 19. The girl, the only Christian among the abductees was reportedly still being held captive by Boko Haram because of her refusal to renounce her faith.

This announcement was made known on the church’s official Facebook page. It was further confirmed by the General Overseer, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere in a phone conversation with a WIRED reporter.

The church further promised to relocate the girl’s family to Port Harcourt and build them a three bedroom flat on a plot to be bought in their name.

Speaking to our reporter, the general overseer confirmed that he is in touch with the girl’s family and may be paying them a visit soon.

OPM is known for its humanitarian and charity works notable as the only church to build and run free schools in Nigeria where pupils are given free uniforms, books and fed twice daily.

The Ondo State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Leah Sharibu.

Ayo Oladapo, Ondo CAN Chairman said in a statement issued in Akure and obtained the press on Thursday that the decision of the Boko Haram group to hold on to Sharibu after the release of the other kidnapped Dapchi girls showed that their battle is against the Christians in Nigeria.

Leah and other school girls were kidnapped three weeks ago from their school in Dapchi, Yobe State. All other captives have been freed except her.
