Rivers State Ministry of Health Refused to Test Me -Coronavirus Patient (Full Interview)

Girl infected with coronavirus in Rivers state has said the Rivers state ministry of health did not take adequate measures to ensure she was tested and isolated when she alerted them she had symptoms and had just returned from a trip to Paris.

The coronavirus patient, a 19 years old model, whose name was not mentioned, said this in during a call-in radio interview with the Nigeria Info radio station on Monday in Port Harcourt.

She narrated how she left Nigeria for a fashion show in Paris on the 13th of January 2020 and returned to the country via the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in Rivers state on the 16th of March, 2020.

She said on he return, temperature was checked at the airport and she filled a form and went home to our family.

Three days later, she experienced sore throat and proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) for testing and was declined. She then contacted the Rivers State Ministry of Health.

Staff and health workers from the ministry visited her and only gave her hand sanitizers and a temperature testing device. She recalled that she asked to be tested and was told she should not worry.

Suspecting she may have infected, she then got in contact with the World Health Organization (WHO) which facilitated her testing and her results returned positive for coronavirus.

The Rivers state government has ordered a curfew in some parts of the state and a partial lockdown in other parts to help mitigate free movements and stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the state.
