A devastating fire outbreak occurred on the night of April 26, 2024, at Aleto along the East-west road in the Eleme axis of Rivers State, leaving a trail of destruction and claiming multiple lives.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 9:00 PM local time when a tanker overturned, sparking a chain reaction of explosions and flames that quickly engulfed the surrounding area. At least four individuals lost their lives in the tragedy, with one victim burnt beyond recognition.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene to extinguish the raging blaze and provide assistance to those affected. The aftermath of the incident left a scene of utter destruction, with charred remains of vehicles scattered across the roadway.
The exact cause of the tanker’s overturn is yet to be determined, but investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The fire outbreak has left the community in shock, with many calling for improved safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
