In Livingstone Local Court A3, a couple has been granted a week to consider reconciliation after it emerged that they had engaged in intimate relations on the eve of their court appearance.
Senior Local Court Magistrate Fredrick Mainza expressed surprise when Faustina Sikazimina, 35, petitioned for divorce despite her husband, Mizinga Mwanza, revealing that they had been intimate the previous night.
The court ordered an adjournment to allow for the mother of the woman to provide her testimony, citing the couple’s recent intimate encounter as indicative of underlying affection.
According to reports from Zambia Mail, Mwanza, who opposed the divorce, disclosed details about their physical relationship after Sikazimina accused him of infidelity.
“We had intimacy last night and shared the same bed. We have enjoyed a happy marriage. Please, grant us another chance,” Mwanza pleaded.
Sikazimina informed the court that she acquiesced to Mwanza’s advances under pressure, expressing her disinterest in continuing the marriage.
In his judgment, Senior Local Court Magistrate Mainza granted the couple a week-long period to reassess their relationship and consider reconciliation.
