“I’m here today; I’m coping and doing well, but I feel like being my own biggest critic has been what has brought me this far; that’s what has made me who I am right now.
Looking back at my first performance, I can laugh compared to where I am right now. It’s always like I can become way better. I always watch my old videos and write down things I can improve and how I can refine my choreography. Definitely, I need to sharpen my choreography and aim for a bigger stage production.
I know I can sing and dance at the same time, and that is easy for me, but I make sure I have enough time to rehearse. I know what I want and understand certain elements, like lighting. I’m literally a stage producer at this point. I’ve studied it.
You just have to be strong and putting that pressure on myself has definitely brought me here, and I’m cool with that as long as I get what I want.”
Ayra Starr’s documentary for her fans and aspiring artists serves as a reminder that greatness and attainment of a greater height is often as a result of hard work, self-reflection, and an unwavering commitment to one’s craft.
