Lagos Deputy Governor Praises Nigerian Youths for Their Achievements, Urges Them to be Self-Reliant
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed pride in the accomplishments of Nigerian youths, who have made significant contributions in various fields globally. Despite the country’s challenges, Hamzat believes that the youths have the potential to excel and become self-reliant.
Speaking at a National Youth Symposium held in Lagos to celebrate his 60th birthday, Hamzat highlighted the impressive achievements of Nigerian youths in science, medicine, music, and technology. He urged them to take advantage of available opportunities to become self-reliant and not rely on the government or others.
The Deputy Governor emphasized that the advent of the internet has opened up new opportunities for youths to excel globally. However, he noted that many have lost hope in reversing negative trends and urged them to learn how to manage their time and resources effectively.
Hamzat also acknowledged the country’s socio-economic challenges and insecurity, but stressed that there are opportunities available for investment and growth. He urged Nigerians to look beyond their immediate challenges and tap into the country’s vast potential.
Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, a former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, who was a guest speaker at the symposium, echoed Hamzat’s sentiments. He emphasized the importance of resourcefulness and resilience in overcoming challenges and becoming self-reliant.
Fagbohun urged the youths to emulate the Deputy Governor’s exemplary leadership and make use of the knowledge gained from the symposium to improve their lives and the country. He also called on the government to remove obstacles that prevent youths from accessing resources and opportunities.
Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, was also a guest speaker at the symposium. She highlighted the challenges faced by farmers in accessing land for agricultural purposes, but assured that measures are being taken to ease access to land. She emphasized the importance of empowering young people in the agricultural sector to increase food production and sustainability.
The symposium provided a platform for young people to share their experiences and learn from each other’s successes and challenges. It was a call to action for Nigerian youths to take advantage of available opportunities, become self-reliant, and contribute positively to national development.
