NDDC Unveils 2nd phase of youth empowerment programme
NDDC Launches Second Phase of Holistic Opportunities Programme to Empower Niger Delta Youths

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched the second phase of its Holistic Opportunities Programme for Engagement (HOPE), with a focus on empowering youths in the oil-rich region. The programme, designed to address the pressing challenges facing young people in the region, particularly in terms of employment and lack of opportunities, will provide training and empowerment in various sectors such as agriculture and technology.

Speaking during the launch of the programme in Port Harcourt, the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized the importance of creating jobs and empowering youths across the region. “The success of Project HOPE requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders, including government entities, private sector players, international partners, community leaders, and non-governmental organizations,” he said.

Ogbuku urged youths in the region to take advantage of the opportunities with zeal and determination, stressing that they are the architects of their destiny and catalysts for regional transformation. “In the past, we have seen instances where individuals were given slots to nominate participants for empowerment programmes without passion for the training. This often leads to disappointment when they fail to utilize the starter packs and equipment provided,” he said.

The NDDC boss explained that the new approach will involve selecting participants based on their area of interest and passion, and providing them with support and monitoring to ensure their success. “We will track their performance to ensure that they excel and make a positive impact in their communities,” he added.

The Executive Director of Projects at NDDC, Victor Antai, described Project HOPE as a beacon of optimism and a catalyst for change. “We are confident that this programme will have a lasting impact on the lives of our youths and contribute to the development of the Niger Delta region,” he said.

With the launch of the second phase of HOPE, the NDDC is set to make a significant difference in the lives of young people in the Niger Delta region. The programme’s focus on creating jobs and empowering youths is expected to have a positive impact on the region’s economic development and social stability.
