The tragic incident comes just days after another fatal accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where two passengers died after falling off a moving vehicle.
Lagos, Nigeria — At least 10 people, including three children, lost their lives in a tragic accident that occurred at the Abule Osun area of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Tuesday night.
The crash, which involved a Toyota Sienna vehicle and a stationary truck, took place around 11 pm, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the accident was caused by the high-speed Sienna vehicle crashing into a parked truck laden with granite, which was obstructing part of the road.
“Upon arrival at the scene of the road traffic accident at Abule Osun, inward Iyana Iba, along Lagos-Badagry Expressway, it was discovered that a Toyota Sienna bus, registration number BDG 342 FS, loaded with passengers from the Eastern part of the country, was involved in a road accident with a parked SHACMAN truck, registration number unknown,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
He further explained that the investigation revealed that the truck had been left parked on the road, shutting down about half of the carriageway, while the speeding Toyota Sienna collided with it from behind.
“Ten people lost their lives to the unfortunate incident, including three male adults, four female adults, two female children, and one male child. Three other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rescued by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) before the arrival of the LASEMA team,” he added.
The injured passengers—a female adult and two children—were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. The deceased were handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for further procedures.
The Toyota Sienna involved in the accident has since been recovered by LASEMA and towed to the FRSC station.

LASEMA has advised motorists to exercise caution and ensure adherence to road safety regulations to prevent further loss of lives on the roads.
