Second Shooting at Toronto Jewish Girls’ School Raises Alarm as Anti-Semitic Attacks Surge in Canada

TORONTO, CANADA- A Jewish girls’ school in Toronto, Bais Chaya Mushka, was hit by gunfire early Saturday morning, marking the second shooting at the school this year. The attack comes as Canada experiences an increase in anti-Semitic incidents since the onset of the Gaza conflict.

Shots were fired from a vehicle around 4 a.m., breaking a window but causing no injuries, according to Toronto police. Authorities believe this shooting is connected to a similar incident at the school in May.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his concern, stating,

“I am very disturbed by this attack. My heart goes out to the students, staff, and parents who must be terrified and hurting today. Anti-Semitism is a disgusting and dangerous form of hate – and we won’t let it stand.”

The attack coincided with the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism. According to a report by B’nai Brith Canada, anti-Semitic incidents have more than doubled in the country from 2022 to 2023.

This incident mirrors another case in Montreal, where a Jewish school was targeted twice in one week in November 2023, also with no injuries reported.
