Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Bolaji Olugbenga, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ijanikin Police Station.
CSP Olugbenga reportedly collapsed in his office on Thursday evening and was declared dead before he could be taken to the hospital.
This is the second time in one week that a Lagos DPO has died under similar circumstances in the same axis. Superintendent of Police (SP) Mojeed Salami, the DPO of Seme Police Division, also collapsed in his office and passed away earlier in the week, on Tuesday, January 10.
According to reports, Olugbenga’s sudden death left officers at the Ijanikin station in deep mourning. His body has since been moved to the mortuary.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos Police Command, confirmed the tragic incidents. In the case of SP Salami, sources said he had complained of feeling unwell before sending his orderly to summon the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO). Unfortunately, upon the orderly’s return, Salami was found gasping for breath on the floor. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The back-to-back deaths of two senior officers in such a short span have raised concerns within the Lagos State Police Command, though no official cause of death has been disclosed in either case.
