In his response, Atiku emphasized the importance of supporting major investments like the Dangote Refinery, which he described as a crucial project for Nigeria’s energy and foreign exchange needs.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians to safeguard the Dangote Refinery from any attempts by government agencies that could hinder its progress.
The statement, made via his X social media handle, came in response to a recent statement from the Dangote Group regarding challenges related to Nigeria’s Petroleum Industrial Act (PIA).
On Friday, the Dangote Group released a statement expressing concerns over the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission’s (NUPRC) inability to enforce the domestic crude supply obligations outlined in the PIA.
The statement, signed by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief of Branding and Communications, noted that while NUPRC had allocated 29 million barrels of crude oil to the refinery, the actual delivery had been problematic.
The Dangote Group criticized the NUPRC for facilitating the purchase of only one cargo from domestic producers, with the rest being sourced from international traders, contrary to the PIA’s provisions.
In his response, the former Vice President emphasized the importance of supporting major investments like the Dangote Refinery, which he described as a crucial project for Nigeria’s energy and foreign exchange needs.
He urged Nigerians to ensure that no internal or external forces obstruct the benefits anticipated from this significant initiative.
