Abuja, Nigeria — Popular Nigerian singer and comedian, Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after being detained by the police following a petition from fellow musician Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy.

The petition alleged that Darlington engaged in cyberstalking and harassment.

The Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in the Guzape area of Abuja released Speed Darlington to his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, after he met the stipulated bail conditions. Darlington was arrested last Friday in Lagos and subsequently transferred to Abuja, where he was held by the IRT team.

Speaking with newsmen earlier on Tuesday, Adeyanju confirmed his client’s release and stated that Darlington was in good spirits. He also revealed that he had reviewed the petition filed against the singer but noted that there was no basis for the arrest.

“I have met with Speed Darlington and he’s in good spirits. We are working to ensure his complete release as soon as possible,” Adeyanju said.

According to Adeyanju, the police refused to release a copy of the petition to him but allowed him to read and understand its contents. The lawyer further questioned the legitimacy of the petition, stating that it did not justify the detention of his client.

Meanwhile, Darlington’s mother, who is popularly known as Queen, had earlier raised alarm over her son’s sudden disappearance. In a heartfelt video message, she accused Burna Boy and his team of being behind her son’s arrest.

Queen narrated that she was informed by Speed Darlington’s gateman that Burna Boy, along with his team and police officers, came to the singer’s house and took him away. In her emotional plea, she begged Burna Boy to release her son and revealed her desperation by kneeling down in the video.

“Nigerians, please come and help me. My son, Speed Darlington, has been missing for over four days now after he made a video about Burna Boy and Diddy. Burna Boy came to his house with his squad and police and they arrested Akpi. Please, Nigerians, Akpi is my only son. Help me and beg Burna Boy to release my son,” she said.
