South African rapper AKA has died from gun wounds after he was fatally shot in Durban, local authorities have confirmed.
The 35-year-old rapper whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, was shot dead, along with his bodyguard, outside a popular restaurant on Florida Rd in Durban. Another unidentified person, who is understood to be a close friend of AKA, was also shot dead.
It is understood that AKA was standing outside the Wish Restaurant when he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting.
Two unknown cars are believed to have opened fire just before 10pm.
Police had cordoned off the area when an IOL team arrived at the scene on Friday night.
Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was born on the 28th of January 1988 in Cape Town, South Africa. He is known professionally as AKA. He gained significance after releasing his single “Victory Lap” which was released from his debut studio album, Altar Ego (2011).
AKA rose to become one of SA’s best rappers and has produced and written many hit songs including Fela In Versace, Baddest and others since he broke into the industry over a decade ago.
He is survived among many relatives by his daughter, Kairo, which he had with DJ Zinhle.
