The Lagos State Government has announced that the cholera outbreak in the state has claimed 21 lives, up from the previous 15, and infected 401 people, an increase from 350.
According to the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, the increase in cases was expected due to the large gatherings during the Eid-el Kabir celebration.
However, she noted that the number of suspected cases is decreasing in local government areas (LGAs) due to the state government’s interventions and surveillance efforts.
The Ministry of Health is working with relevant agencies to identify the source of contamination and intensify surveillance activities in affected areas.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take precautions to stop the spread of cholera.
