Morocco – Moroccan scientist Rachid Yazami has been awarded a new patent in China for his groundbreaking method of rapidly charging lithium batteries, a development poised to significantly impact the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

Yazami announced the achievement on his Facebook page, stating, “Proud to share that after Japan last February, it’s now China’s turn to grant us a patent for the fast battery charging method, particularly for future electric cars.”

The patented technology, titled “Adaptive Charging Protocol for Fast Battery Charging and Fast Charging System Implementing This Protocol,” features Yazami’s innovative “Non-Linear Voltage” method. This approach drastically reduces the time required to fully charge lithium batteries, enabling charging times as short as 15 minutes—or even just 5 minutes in some cases, according to tests conducted in Singapore, where Yazami is based.

The breakthrough aligns with global efforts to promote renewable energy and coincides with Morocco’s growing ambitions in the sector. Recently, the Moroccan government signed a $1.3 billion investment agreement with Sino-European EV battery group Gotion High-Tech to establish a gigafactory in Kénitra, aimed at bolstering the country’s electric vehicle industry.
