Accra, Ghana – During President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025, his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Isaac Amponsah, collapsed, causing a brief interruption in the proceedings.

The incident occurred shortly after the President began his speech, highlighting his administration’s achievements over the past eight years.

In a video shared by GhanaWeb, Colonel Amponsah was seen standing behind the President when he suddenly lost consciousness and fell to the floor. Members of Parliament’s medical team promptly attended to him, providing immediate assistance before he was transported to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation.

Visibly concerned, President Akufo-Addo paused his address to ensure his ADC received urgent care. The aide-de-camp of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, a police officer, quickly assumed Colonel Amponsah’s duties, standing behind the President for the remainder of the address.

As of the time of reporting, the cause of Colonel Amponsah’s collapse remains undisclosed, and there has been no official update on his condition.

Colonel Amponsah has been serving as President Akufo-Addo’s ADC since February 2023, following his promotion to the rank of Colonel. Prior to this appointment, he was the Chief Instructor at the Military Training Academy and was stationed at the Defence Intelligence Unit at General Headquarters.
