The Nigerian government has successfully repatriated 190 citizens from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), bringing the total number of returned Nigerians from the Gulf state to 732 since October. The latest batch of returnees were received by a team of government officials led by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as they arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday morning.
According to NEMA, the returnees have undergone profiling and documentation by relevant agencies to ensure their smooth reintegration into Nigerian society. They have also been sensitized on the importance of upholding the values of patriotism, rule of law, decency, and integrity.
The repatriation effort is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safe return of Nigerians who have been stranded abroad. The federal government has urged all Nigerians, wherever they may be, to conduct themselves with dignity and respect upon their return to the country, serving as exemplary ambassadors for their nation.
This latest repatriation comes just a few months after the government brought back 542 Nigerians from UAE in October. The move is seen as a major step towards addressing the issue of stranded Nigerian nationals abroad and ensuring their safe return home.
In related news, the Nigerian government has announced that it has reached an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to resume the issuance of visas to Nigerian passport holders. According to sources, the agreement took effect from July 15th.
