A sense of shock and grief has enveloped the Labinkulu community in Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, following the brutal killing of a 24-year-old man, Abass Olalere, by a gang of 12 armed men.
According to eyewitnesses, the gang stormed the victim’s home around 9:48 pm on Saturday, attacking him in the presence of his wife and three-month-old son. The wife, Omolayo Olalere, recounted that the attackers invaded their home without warning, beating one of her senior wives mercilessly before breaking into the house.
The gang, whose faces were covered with masks, allegedly used various weapons to inflict injuries on the victim, including charms to ensure he wouldn’t survive. The family rushed him to cure land hospital in Moniya, where he was later referred to another facility before eventually succumbing to his injuries.
The victim’s father, Jelili Olalere, expressed shock at the incident, describing his son as a quiet person who didn’t have any known enemies. The family has reported the case to the Moniya Divisional Police Station and the victim’s corpse has been deposited at Adeoyo hospital’s morgue.
The police have been notified of the incident, but attempts to get a reaction from the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful as his phone number was not reachable.
The community is still reeling from the shocking incident, with many residents left wondering what could have motivated the attackers to commit such a heinous crime.
