New Policy Boosts Off-Campus Work Opportunities for International Students While Addressing Canada’s Labor Needs
Canada has introduced a significant policy shift, allowing international students, including Nigerians, to work off-campus for up to 24 hours per week during academic terms. This marks an increase from the previous 20-hour limit, providing students with greater flexibility and opportunities.
Marc Miller, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, emphasized the benefits of this change.
“This adjustment enables students to manage their time better, gain valuable practical experience, and contribute meaningfully to Canada’s workforce,”
he said.
The move is part of Canada’s broader strategy to address labor shortages in key sectors while enhancing opportunities for international students to integrate into the economy.
“This policy not only supports students in acquiring Canadian work experience but also bolsters our short-term economic recovery and long-term prosperity,”
Miller added.
The new regulation aims to strike a balance between academics and work, empowering students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
