Federal Civil Servants Face Deadline for Identity Verification by February 17, 2025
In a move aimed at eliminating ghost workers within the federal civil service, officials have set a deadline of February 17, 2025, for identity verification. This directive emerged from a memo issued by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, which was reviewed by our correspondent on Saturday.
Civil servants are required to verify their identities through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal as the government prepares to halt salaries and impose penalties for ghost worker enrollment. Reports indicate that many civil servants have been in a rush to obtain their Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN) to comply with the deadline.
To complete the verification process, individuals must provide their TIN, IPPIS number, and salary account number. The memo stated, “In accordance with the Treasury Circular Ref. No. TRY/A6&B6/2024-OAGF/CAD/026/Vol. V/910 dated June 27, 2024, and the subsequent extension on August 16, 2024, I am directed to inform you that the Accountant-General has authorized an additional one-week extension for the OAF-IPPIS Payroll Validation Portal, from February 10 to February 17, 2025.”
The portal will be made available for employees who were unable to complete their validation by the previous deadline. Access can be gained via the Office of the Accountant-General’s website: www.oagf.gov.ng.
It has been underscored that all employees are expected to finalize their payroll information updates by midnight on February 17, 2025. Those who fail to take advantage of this final opportunity may face consequences, including suspension from the payroll.
Additionally, Accounting Officers, Directors/Heads of Finance & Accounts, and Internal Audit Units in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and other government arms are urged to disseminate this circular widely and ensure adherence.
In a related development in 2024, President Bola Tinubu mandated that civil servants who continue to receive federal salaries while living abroad must return the funds. He also directed disciplinary actions against supervisors and departmental heads who facilitated these fraudulent practices during their tenure.
