Covid-19: Nigerian Celebrities Sentenced For Flouting Lockdown

Covid-19: Funke Akindele, JJc Skillz, Naira Marley In Police Custody

Nigerian celebrity couple, Funke Akindele aka Jenifer and Abdul Rasheed Bello aka JJc Skillz have been sentenced to 14-day community service by a Lagos magistrate court for flouting the lockdown order imposed on the state to mitigate coronavirus spread.

Chief Magistrate Yewande Aje-Afunwa, in her judgment, convicted the couple of a one-count charge brought against them by the Lagos State Government.

Funke and her husband were found guilty of the offence of social distancing over the birthday party she held last Saturday for him.

The couple held a party at their Amen Estate, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos residence and contravened the lockdown order of President Muhammadu Buhari and Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu order on social distancing, which forbade a gathering of more than 20 people.

The court sentenced Funke Akindele and husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello to 14- day community service each to start from 9.00 a.m. to 12 noon daily during which they are to sensitise the public on the pandemic COVID-19 in ten major areas of the state.

They are also to pay a fine of N100,000 each after which they would observe the period for isolation.

The Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN) was the prosecutor while Funke and her husband were represented by their counsel, Abayomi Alagbada.

Police in Lagos State say they have also arrested Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.

The singer was ordered to report to the State CID Yaba on Monday, following his participation in a party organised by Funke Akindele and her husband Abdul Rasheed Bello.

The party was attended by over 20 persons. They police say they will all be charged for flouting the lockdown order.
