Vandals Strike Again: Two Electricity Towers Damaged Along Damaturu-Maiduguri Line

Unconfirmed reports suggest that yet another act of vandalism has been committed on the electricity infrastructure along the Damaturu-Maiduguri line, marking the third such incident in recent months. According to sources, the latest attack occurred on Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

In a statement released by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the company confirmed that two of its towers, T193 and T194, along the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV Single Circuit Transmission Line have been destroyed by vandals. This is not an isolated incident, as TCN had previously reported similar incidents in July 2024, when two of its towers along the same line were also destroyed.

The latest act of vandalism is a worrying development for the country’s power sector, which has been grappling with a series of challenges in recent years. The loss of two critical transmission towers will undoubtedly disrupt electricity supply to the region, causing inconvenience to residents and businesses alike.

Further details on the incident are expected to be released soon, but it is clear that more needs to be done to address the issue of vandalism and ensure the security of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.
