Desmond Elliot Addresses Gay Accusations, Affirms His Sexuality
Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has responded to rumors regarding his sexual orientation, firmly denying claims that he is gay. The controversy erupted following a blog post that listed several Nigerian celebrities—including actors and reality stars—as purportedly being part of the LGBTQ+ community.
The list ignited significant backlash from netizens, prompting Elliot to speak out in an interview with TVC. He characterized the accusations as baseless and stated that he has more important issues to focus on than engaging with unfounded rumors.
“I see no reason to address allegations against me that don’t alter my life in any way,” Elliot remarked. “Such claims are merely opinions, and I don’t believe it’s necessary to confirm or deny them. What truly matters to me is the positive impact I have on others.”
He continued, “If someone identifies as a particular way, as long as it adheres to the law, that is their prerogative. There is no obligation for anyone to accept it; everyone has the right to live their truth.”
Elliot further emphasized his heterosexuality, stating, “Let me clarify that I am straight—there’s no one straighter than me. If others want to seek attention through publicity stunts, that is their choice. I genuinely do not concern myself with them. Live your life, but do so respectfully and within the law.”
