El-Rufai Calls for North-South-South Political Alliance Amid Rising Speculations on 2027 Elections and Opposition Strategies

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has called for a renewed political alliance between the North and the South-South, emphasizing the need for a united front to “save Nigeria.”

Former Kaduna State Governor made the appeal on Friday while visiting the family of late elder statesman and Niger Delta advocate, Edwin Clark, who passed away on February 17.

“Nigeria Needs a Rescue Operation”

Speaking during the visit, he highlighted the historical bond between the two regions, urging a return to that partnership.

“In the 60s, 70s, and 80s, the North’s traditional political partners were from the South-South. Let us not forget that. Let us go back to that. Let us save this country because it really requires saving. We need a rescue operation.”

His statement comes amid growing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition politicians reportedly holding strategic meetings.

El-Rufai, Atiku, and the 2027 Political Landscape

During the visit, Former Kaduna State Governor was accompanied by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he commended for spearheading economic reforms under former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007.

The former governor has been seen engaging with opposition figures in recent weeks, sparking speculation about his political ambitions and possible alignments ahead of 2027.
