Nigeria’s Remi Tinubu Empowers 1,000 Women Petty Traders in Rivers State with N50,000 Grants

Rivers State, Nigeria – In a move to boost economic growth and enhance the livelihoods of petty traders in Rivers State, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has provided financial support to 1,000 women petty traders across the 23 local government areas of the state. The grants, totaling N1.85 billion, were disbursed under the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Economic Empowerment Programme.

The programme, which aims to drive economic growth and create more jobs, was coordinated by Senator Tinubu’s wife, who is also the National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative. The Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries at the Government House Banquet Hall in Port Harcourt.

According to Fubara, who delivered a message on behalf of Senator Remi Tinubu, the grants are designed to assist women petty traders in overcoming business challenges, expanding their businesses, creating more jobs, and contributing more robustly to the state’s economy. The initiative is part of a long-term plan to boost local economies and enhance the capacities of families to cope with challenges.

Fubara emphasized that care was taken to ensure that beneficiaries were drawn from rural areas and those in genuine need. Officials have been directed to monitor the process and prevent privileged individuals from hijacking the initiative.

The Renewed Hope Initiative has supported various initiatives in Rivers State in recent months, including providing exercise books for school children, supporting women in agriculture, and offering scholarships to students. The initiative is committed to consistently delivering empowerment programmes to women and youth across the six geopolitical zones of the country as support to economic reforms initiated by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
