Vice-President Kashim Shettima is set to take center stage at the Second Africa Climate Forum (ACF) 2024, where he will underscore Nigeria’s pivotal role in spearheading climate action and sustainable development on the African continent.
The highly anticipated event, scheduled for October 14-15, 2024, in Abuja, will bring together key stakeholders and thought leaders from Africa and beyond, reinforcing the continent’s commitment to climate resilience and innovation.
According to the forum’s organizers, the Global Centre for Law, Business, and Economy (GCLBE), Shettima will be represented by Miss Rukaiya El-Rufai, Special Adviser on NEC and Climate Change.
Shettima’s keynote address is expected to highlight Nigeria’s climate policy agenda and its vision for positioning Africa as a leader in the global transition to sustainable energy.
This year’s forum, themed “Africa’s Climate Future: Pathways from Dependence to Leadership,” comes at a crucial time for the continent. Following the success of the inaugural edition in 2023, the 2024 event promises to be even more impactful, providing a platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration on key climate-related issues.
The forum will address some of Africa’s most pressing challenges, including access to clean energy, climate finance, green technology, and responsible resource management. It will also emphasize the importance of gender inclusion in climate solutions, a key topic in global sustainability discussions.
Prof. George Nwangwu, Director General of GCLBE, remarked on the significance of this year’s forum, saying, “The Africa Climate Forum 2024 comes at a critical juncture where Africa must take charge of its future. We are thrilled to unite diverse stakeholders who are passionate about developing solutions to our shared climate challenges.”
Dr. Benjamin Mukoro, Coordinator of ACF, added, “With the backing of key climate and sustainability figures, we are confident that this year’s forum will drive forward significant progress in Africa’s climate agenda.”

Nigeria’s Role in Africa’s Climate Leadership
Nigeria, as one of the largest economies in Africa, has an essential role to play in leading climate action on the continent. Vice-President Shettima’s participation at the ACF 2024 reinforces the country’s commitment to sustainable growth and its strategic focus on addressing the climate crisis.
The nation has been working to diversify its energy portfolio, increase access to clean energy, and implement environmentally friendly policies that align with global climate goals. Through initiatives like the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGI) and its active participation in international climate forums, Nigeria is positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s climate movement.
The forum will further amplify Nigeria’s vision of a green and sustainable future, with the country continuing to champion the use of cleaner energy sources, promote conservation, and drive economic development that benefits both people and the planet.
