Six Nigerian Students Receive Top Honours in Cambridge Exams

Six students from three secondary schools in Nigeria have achieved outstanding results in the June and November 2023 Cambridge examination series, earning them top honours in the World Outstanding Cambridge Learners Awards.

The British Council, in collaboration with Cambridge International Examinations, recognises the exceptional achievements of students from its partner schools across Nigeria. The country director, Mrs Lucy Pearson, announced the winners at the British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learners Awards held in Lagos recently.

Two students, Oluwademilade David and Omaghomi Sharon, from Brookstone School emerged as winners in the June 2023 series, while four students – Obodoechi Chiedozie, Favour Chinecherem, Fehintoluwa Erinayo, and Bamidele Sharon – from James Hope College and The Ambassadors Group of Schools made the cut in the November 2023 series.

A total of 95 students from 37 British Council partner schools achieved the highest marks globally in various subjects such as Sociology, ICT, and Business Studies. Additionally, 71 students received Top in Nigeria awards for achieving the highest standard mark in the country for individual subjects.

The British Council also presented High Achievement Awards to 48 students and Best Across Awards to eight students who demonstrated exceptional cumulative standard marks across multiple subjects.

According to Pearson, the council uses strict criteria to calculate Cambridge Awards to ensure consistency across the world. She noted that these globally-recognised qualifications have far-reaching benefits for students, enabling them to attend top universities, secure exciting career opportunities, and set themselves up for a more rewarding life.

The Regional Director of Sub-Saharan Africa International Education at Cambridge University, Mr Juan Visser, congratulated the Nigerian students on their outstanding academic achievements. He praised the dedication and hard work of the learners and their teachers, saying that the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards recognises exceptional performances around the world.

The awardees expressed their excitement and gratitude for being recognised for their hard work. As they move forward with their qualifications, they are well-equipped to take on exciting opportunities and achieve their dreams.

The event marked a significant milestone for Nigerian students, demonstrating their potential to excel on a global stage.
