The Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu has announced a scheme to sell 50kg bags of rice to public servants at a subsidized rate of N40,000 each.

This initiative, aimed at alleviating the impact of the food crisis, was detailed in a recent communication from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs.

According to the letter, which was signed by Jaiyesimi Abimbola, the Director of Human Resources at the Ministry, interested staff members are required to complete a Google form available on the OHCSF website and submit it to their Director of Human Resources for endorsement.

The letter further states that payment and distribution of the rice will be managed by designated officials, with the chairman of the Joint Union Council of the Ministry overseeing the process to ensure transparency. Each staff member is eligible to purchase only one bag, although multiple staff members may jointly pay for and share a single bag.

The Federal Government has also established purchase centers across the country where Nigerians can buy 50kg bags of rice at the same rate. This initiative, part of the current administration’s broader efforts to improve living conditions, was highlighted by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris.
