Two die jumping to escape fire after air mattress fails In Bucheon Hotel Fire
Seven people lost their lives, and a dozen others were injured after a fire broke out at a hotel in Bucheon, South Korea. The blaze, which is believed to have started due to an electrical fault on the eighth floor, resulted in a tragic incident where two people died after jumping from windows. The victims jumped onto an air mattress provided by the fire department, but the mattress flipped, leading to the fatalities.
Other victims were found in rooms on the eighth floor, where the fire was concentrated. Although the flames did not spread throughout the building, the damage was extensive due to the lack of sprinklers in the rooms. The nine-story hotel, built in 2003, predates the law requiring sprinkler systems, according to the city’s fire department.
The fire was reported at 19:39 local time (11:39 GMT) and was extinguished by 22:26 on Thursday. Police are now investigating potential negligence on the part of the hotel’s management and examining the fire department’s use of the air mattress, which flipped when the second victim jumped. The injured are receiving treatment in hospitals, with several suffering serious injuries from smoke inhalation.
