The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action against illicit alcohol production in Badagry, Lagos State.

In a joint operation with the Nigerian Army’s 15 Field Engineering Regiment, NAFDAC successfully dismantled an illegal alcohol factory operating from a residence in the area.

According to reports from NAFDAC’s official handle @NafdacAgency, the operation led to the arrest of one Chinedu Okafor, the alleged mastermind behind the illegal production.

Mr. Okafor’s activities came under scrutiny, drawing the attention of the Nigerian Army, which facilitated his apprehension and subsequent handover to NAFDAC authorities at the Ports Inspection Directorate, Seme Border.

Upon investigation, officers seized equipment and materials used in the production of the illicit drinks, effectively shutting down the clandestine operation. The confiscated products, with an estimated street value exceeding N50 million, have been secured by NAFDAC.

It was revealed that Mr Okafor had been engaged in this illegal activity for an extended period, raising concerns about the integrity of regulated alcohol products in the Badagry area.

NAFDAC has underscored the importance of public vigilance in detecting and reporting suspicious activities to safeguard public health.

Mr. Okafor is set to face prosecution, and all confiscated products will be destroyed by regulatory protocols.
