The lifeless body of a young man, reportedly from Gombe State, was discovered over the weekend near the bustling PZ area in the Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The deceased, who had deep knife cuts, is alleged to have been killed by his friends. Sources suggest that the victim and his assailants were in Zaria with the intention of being recruited into the Nigerian Army
A source, who requested anonymity, informed journalists that the young man was “hacked to death by his colleagues who then withdrew about N800,000 from his account.” The source added, “The deceased had told his friends that his parents sent about N1 million into his account. On Friday, he even gave his ATM card and password to one of the friends to withdraw N10,000 for food.”
The Public Relations Officer at the Army Depot, in a statement to Vanguard, said, “Please note, we also heard of the incident where a civilian was robbed and killed around PZ. The Zaria Divisional Police is in charge of this matter. You can contact them for further inquiries.”
Despite their unsuccessful attempt to join the Army, the group of young men remained in Zaria, loitering around the PZ area. Following repeated complaints and disturbances, local authorities have chased them away from PZ. They have since relocated to the polo ground, continuing to cause disturbances to the nearby community.
The corpse of the victim has been deposited at a medical facility in Zaria, while investigations by the Zaria Divisional Police are ongoing.
