A group of former militants from the Niger Delta on Wednesday, December 19, took their protest to the gate of the National Assembly in Abuja, demanding the payment of their allowances hours to when President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 budget presentation will kick off .
The ex-militants had placards with the inscriptions like, “Dokubo Must Go” and “Pay Us Our Stipends”.
They arrived at the gate as the National Assembly prepared to receive President Muhammadu Buhari to present the 2019 Appropriation Bill.
While the presentation was scheduled for 11am, the ex-militants stormed the gate as early as 7:30am taking security operatives at the assembly by surprise.
The protest was peaceful and meant to draw the attention of the president to the alleged mismanagement of the Amnesty programme by its current leader, Charles Dokubo, the leader of the group said..
