Lagos, Nigeria – Mr. Femi Otedola, Chancellor of Augustine University, Epe, has donated N3.7 billion to fund the construction of a new engineering building at the institution.
This contribution represents the second phase of Otedola’s commitment to establishing a Faculty of Engineering at the university, following a similar multi-billion-naira investment last year.
The donation was announced during the university’s sixth convocation ceremony, where Otedola also confirmed that the building’s construction is expected to be completed within the next 12 months.
In addition to his infrastructure investments, Otedola has previously offered financial support to students, providing one million naira towards tuition fees for each enrolled student.
In his address to the graduating class, Otedola urged the students to view their education as a means of serving others, emphasizing the importance of character alongside academic achievement. “Your degree is not just a symbol of academic success; it signifies your commitment to integrity and lifelong learning,” he stated. “You are entering a world that needs not only your skills and ideas but also your character.”
The convocation was also attended by the Catholic Bishop of the Lagos Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, who reinforced the university’s mission to develop morally grounded and spiritually enriched graduates. “Education at Augustine University extends beyond intellectual growth; it shapes individuals who are ethical and well-rounded,” he remarked.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Odetunde, expressed gratitude for Otedola’s support, acknowledging contributions from other benefactors, including Chief Stephen Bakare’s funding for a new Faculty of Law Complex. He also highlighted ongoing projects, such as new hostels being built by members of the Church of Assumption, Falomo, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Convocation speaker Dr. Peter Bamkole delivered a lecture on “Rethinking Economic Rebirth in Nigeria through Youth Entrepreneurship,” underscoring the importance of skill development to enhance young graduates’ employability.
