The body of former Senate President, Joseph Wayas, arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, early Wednesday, after a three-year delay.

Wayas’ remains were received by Senator Jarigbe Agom, Representative Peter Akpanke, family members, and other stakeholders.

The late Senate President, who died on November 30, 2021, in London, will be given a state burial, according to Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu.

Senator Jarigbe expressed gratitude to Governor Otu for facilitating the return of Wayas’ body and praised the late statesman’s contributions to education and leadership.

Hon. Peter Akpanke described Wayas as a political father and mentor who impacted many lives and built leaders.

Dr. Doncklaimz Enamhe, Convener of Who is Who Forum of Northern Cross River, thanked God and Governor Otu for resolving the issues that caused the delay and ensuring a befitting burial.

The body was deposited at the mortuary, with family and associates paying their respects.

Wayas’ burial plans are underway, with the Governor and Federal Government promising a state burial for the two-term Senate President and acting President.
