Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Offers Scholarships to Children of Slain Soldiers

Abia State Governor Alex Otti visited the families of the five soldiers who were tragically killed by gunmen in Obikabia, Obingwa Local Government Area. The condolence visit took place on Thursday, following the recent violent incident.

The deceased soldiers include Sgt. Chalse Ugochkwu, Sgt Bala Abrabam, CPl Ugwu Gideon, LCPL Ikpeama Ikechukwu, and LCPL Augustine Emanuel.

During the visit, Governor Otti met with the young widows of the soldiers at 144 Battalion Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, on Saturday. He was received by the Commander of 14 Brigade Ohafia, Nigeria Army, Brigadier General O. O. Diya. The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha were also present.

Governor Otti assured the families that those responsible for the killing of the soldiers will be brought to justice. He also announced that the state government will provide scholarships to the children of the slain soldiers up to the university level.

Brigadier General O. O. Diya, Commander of the 14 Brigade Ohafia in the Nigerian Army, announced that the military will collaborate with other security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.

This incident occurred during the “Biafran Heroes Day” sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which paralyzed commercial and economic activities in parts of Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi States.

The Nigerian Army and Police have yet to comment on the reported killing of soldiers in Abia State, which has been condemned by the south-east governors’ forum.
