A tragic incident occurred in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, where a commercial tricyclist took his own life after his vehicle was seized by government agents.
According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified man was intercepted by officials while en route to a destination within the state. His tricycle was seized and transported to an office near Jubilee Estate along the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway.
Despite persistent efforts to retrieve his vehicle, the tricyclist’s attempts proved futile. Frustrated, he apparently sought to protest the seizure and was found hanged from a tree in front of the compound housing the offices of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).
The incident occurred early Thursday morning, and a video captured by Prince Excel of Aiyekooto Reporters shows the victim’s body suspended from a tree by a rope around his neck. A note accompanying the video indicates that the tricyclist took his life due to the authorities’ refusal to return his seized tricycle.
However, LASTMA spokesperson Taofiq Adebayo denied any involvement of their officers in the seizure, stating that no tricycle was impounded within their premises in the area. “We don’t know anything about the incident,” Adebayo said. “LASTMA is not involved in anything of such, and we don’t know anything about the hanging of the dead body.”
