President Muhammadu Buhari has relieved Prof Kemebradikumo Daniel Pondei of his position in the NDDC and appointed Mr Effiong Okon Akwa as interim Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The president has approved the appointment of Mr Effiong Okon Akwa, the Ag. Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission as interim MD of the NDDC.
Prof. Pondei is facing series of allegations bothering on corruption while he served as interim MD of the NDDC.
Mr. Akwa, who is to assume headship of NDDC with immediate effect, will stay till completion of the forensic audit of the commission ordered sometimes ago by President Buhari.
This development was contained in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina and made available to REPORT AFRIQUE.
Mr. Akwa will now oversee the ongoing forensic audit of the commission to its completion, the statement read.
According to the statement, President Buhari hinged his decision on the plethora of litigation which had characterize the Pondei-led IMC of NDDC.

“He is Mr Effiong Okon Akwa, the Ag. Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission, who is to assume headship till completion of the forensic audit.
“Mr Akwa is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
