Port Harcourt, Nigeria – A dramatic showdown is brewing between human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and Prophet Umueke Miracle, leader of the Dynamic Flame of Fire and Miracle Ministries, over the authenticity of miracles.
Sowore, a vocal critic of religious leaders in Nigeria, has long dismissed claims of supernatural healings as deceptive tactics used to exploit people. In a recent interview, he accused churches of staging fake miracles and recounted how his father, who suffered a stroke, was taken to a healing crusade, only for his condition to deteriorate.
“I have never seen a church make a cripple walk or restore sight to the blind,” Sowore asserted. “Religion thrives in this country because governance has failed. If we had effective leadership, people’s prayer points would change.”
Reacting to these statements, Prophet Miracle challenged Sowore to present a stroke patient for healing, promising to shut down his ministry if he failed to perform a miracle. Addressing his congregation, he gave the activist a one-month ultimatum to bring a verified stroke-afflicted individual to his church.
“If I pray and the person stands up and walks, Sowore must never speak on TV or social media again,” the pastor declared. “But if I fail, I will close this church until Jesus returns.”
Sowore, however, countered the challenge by proposing a different venue—the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital’s stroke ward. In a social media post, he urged the pastor to demonstrate his healing abilities by curing patients there, where medical professionals could verify the cases.
“I accept the challenge, but let him clear out the stroke ward at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital,” Sowore stated. “Those patients are certified sick and in urgent need of healing. No need for back and forth—I’ll be watching his live stream to see his miracle work in action.”
Attempts to reach Prophet Miracle for a response were unsuccessful, as a church representative said he was unavailable for comment.
With April 4 set as the deadline, all eyes are now on Port Harcourt to see whether this extraordinary test of faith will unfold as promised.
