Jos, Nigeria – Four youths were killed in an attack by gunmen at a mining site in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on Friday night.

The attack occurred around 9 p.m. in the Butura community, where the victims were working. According to Sabastine Magit, President of the Butura Youth Movement, the gunmen, believed to be speaking the Fulani dialect, also injured five other people before fleeing the scene.

Magit, in a statement released on Saturday, identified the victims as Bwefuk Musa (21), Klingshak Dickson (21), Promise Joshua (20), and Nyam Abaka (20).

The statement read, “In yet another unprovoked assault on members of the Butura community, armed terrorists opened fire on innocent youths working at a mining site near the villages of Kuba and Maikatako in the Butura district of Bokkos Local Government Area. The attack resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to five others.”

This incident follows another tragic attack just four days earlier in the village of Wumat, where five members of a family, including a pregnant woman, were killed.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen executed the attack swiftly, escaping before military personnel stationed nearby could respond. The Butura community has been the target of multiple attacks in recent weeks, with over 20 people reportedly killed by assailants identified as Fulani militants.

Efforts to reach Plateau State Police Command spokesperson Alabo Alfred, the spokesperson for the Military Taskforce Major Samson Zhakom, and the state Commissioner for Information Musa Ashoms for comments were unsuccessful as calls to their phone lines were unanswered.
