Police authorities in Oyo State have apprehended 20 suspects believed to be associated with the Yoruba Nation group over Oyo Government Secretariat invasion.
Clad in military camouflage, the invaders attempted to breach the state government premises in Agodi, Ibadan, only to be met with resistance from security operatives.
According to Osifeso Adewale, spokesperson for the Oyo State police command, the suspects were found in possession of an array of weapons and paraphernalia, including three pump-action guns, hundreds of cartridges, cutlasses, bulletproof vests, and Oodua Nation army camouflage uniforms. The raid also yielded several vehicles and motorcycles.
Eyewitnesses reported a tense standoff between the invaders and security forces, with gunshots ringing out as both sides exchanged fire. Despite the attempted breach, the gallantry of the security personnel prevented the assailants from entering the Governor’s Office.
Following the incident, a joint security team, including soldiers, was deployed to secure the area, effectively cordoning off the Oyo State Government Secretariat. Traffic was diverted as authorities worked to restore order.
While the state government has yet to issue a statement regarding the invasion, police officials have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, the inquiry aims to uncover the motives behind the attack and bring those responsible to justice.
