Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, APC’s State Chairman, expressed concern over repeated allegations of palliative diversion by officials of the NNPP-led government. Abbas warned that inaction could be perceived as tacit approval of these alleged illicit activities.

Kano, Nigeria – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded an investigation into allegations that rice donated by the Federal Government to Kano State has been misappropriated by state officials.

The party is also urging for the prosecution of anyone found culpable in an independent probe.

Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, APC’s State Chairman, expressed concern over repeated allegations of palliative diversion by officials of the NNPP-led government. Abbas warned that inaction could be perceived as tacit approval of these alleged illicit activities.

Abbas highlighted instances of mismanagement, including the discovery of numerous bags of rice labeled “Federal Government Food Security Programme” at a private school run by Shehu Sagagi. He also referenced the arrest of Tasiu Al’amin-Roba, who is allegedly linked to the Secretary to the State Government, for diverting state palliatives.

Additionally, Abbas accused the state government of rebranding and repackaging palliatives with the Governor’s image and NNPP logo, subsequently selling them to party members.

The APC Chairman also criticized the state government for taking credit for Federal Government interventions such as recent distributions of fertilizer, seedlings, and other agricultural inputs, describing it as an attempt to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s support efforts.

In response, Chief of Staff Shehu Sagagi denied the accusations, asserting that the rice found at his Islamic school was either purchased privately or donated by individuals. Sagagi emphasized his longstanding commitment to feeding children in the school, a practice he initiated before his current role.

He assured that he has never diverted palliatives for personal gain and expressed readiness to cooperate fully with any investigation to clear his name, reaffirming his dedication to transparency and accountability.
