Elderly Woman’s Trust Betrayed: Portland Man Turns Kind Gesture Into a Three-Day Ordeal of Sexual Assault and Imprisonmen Over The Christmas Weekend
PORTLAND, OREGON– An Oregon community is reeling after a horrifying crime left a 74-year-old woman victimized by a man who offered to help carry her groceries.
Kenneth Gregory Williams, 69, was arrested for allegedly barricading the elderly woman in her Portland home and sexually assaulting her repeatedly over three days, from December 23 to 25.
A Gesture of Kindness Turns to Terror
The victim, returning from the grocery store, was struggling with her bags when Williams approached her on 9th Avenue, offering assistance. Reluctantly, she accepted his help, unaware of his sinister intentions.
Upon entering her home, Williams allegedly blocked the door, trapping her inside. Over the next three days, she was held against her will and repeatedly raped.
The nightmare ended on December 26 when the woman persuaded Williams to leave. She immediately sought medical attention and reported the crime.
Police Arrest and Investigation
Portland police arrested Williams on January 5, charging him with first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping, and three counts of first-degree rape. Detectives suspect he may have additional victims and are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Michael Bledsoe at [email protected], referencing case number 24-332946.
Williams, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, will be arraigned on January 14.
Community Outrage and Fear
The shocking incident has left residents on edge. Tabitha Peterson, a Portland local, shared her concerns:
“I try not to be alone at night. I carry a club and stay overly aware of my surroundings. You just never know these days.”
Authorities are also investigating Williams for an unrelated sexual assault case and have publicly released his mugshot in hopes of identifying additional victims.
A Troubled History of Crime
Court records reveal a troubling past for Williams, who has faced multiple arrests for crimes including harassment, coercion, and tampering with witnesses.

The teenage victim escaped and alerted authorities, marking another grim reminder of the dangers faced by vulnerable individuals in the city.
Call for Action
