Sweden Unveils ₦56.2m Grant to Encourage Voluntary Repatriation of Immigrants
In a bold shift in migration policy, Sweden has announced a significant financial incentive for immigrants, including Nigerians, who voluntarily return to their home countries. Starting in 2026, individuals will be eligible for up to 350,000 Swedish kronor (₦56.2 million or $34,000) in grants to encourage repatriation.
Migration Minister Johan Forssell revealed the initiative during a press conference, calling it a “paradigm shift” in how the country handles migration. The new grant marks a dramatic increase from the previous offer of 10,000 kronor per adult and 5,000 kronor per child, capped at 40,000 kronor per family.
This initiative aims to boost voluntary returns as part of the country’s evolving immigration strategy.
