Former President Donald Trump suggested Monday that he might flee to Venezuela if he loses the upcoming presidential election, claiming the South American nation is “far safer” than the United States.
Trump Suggests Fleeing to Venezuela
In a two-hour live interview on X, formerly known as Twitter, with platform owner Elon Musk, Trump speculated about the potential outcome of the November election. He told Musk, “If something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, we’ll meet the next time in Venezuela because it’ll be a far safer place to meet than our country, okay?”
Trump also claimed that Venezuela’s crime rate is decreasing while the U.S. is experiencing a surge in crime, with “murderers” and “rapists” allegedly being released from Venezuelan prisons and entering the U.S.
Musk, who recently made headlines by threatening Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on X, drew over 1 million listeners to the livestream despite initial technical difficulties, which he blamed on a “massive DDoS attack.”
The remarks from Trump and Musk come amid escalating political tension in Venezuela, where the opposition continues to protest President Maduro’s controversial election victory last month. The U.S. has backed Maduro’s opponent, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken citing “overwhelming evidence” of electoral fraud.
