Cairo, Egypt – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the Nigerian and Libyan football associations until October 20 to submit their reports regarding the cancellation of the Group D 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between the two nations.

The match, scheduled for October 15, was called off after the Nigerian Super Eagles withdrew following a diversion of their plane to Labraq Airport. Reports indicate that the players were held at the airport for 18 hours without access to food, water, or the internet.

Nasser Al-Suwaie, Secretary-General of the Libyan Football Federation (LFF), confirmed the deadline in a statement reported by Libya Al-Ahrar Channel. According to Al-Suwaie, the LFF has appointed a lawyer to collect evidence for its defense, while expressing concerns about possible internal collusion within CAF.

Al-Suwaie stressed that the Libyan Federation had no involvement in the decision to divert the Nigerian team’s flight. He clarified that the diversion was made by Libyan state authorities, a decision the LFF must respect. Nonetheless, he expressed confidence in the LFF’s position, stating that their defense remains strong.
