Legal Showdown Looms as PSG and Kylian Mbappé Clash Over €55M Wage Claim After Mediation Fails
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is gearing up for a legal battle with Kylian Mbappé after the French star rejected a proposed mediation process over an ongoing wage dispute, which centers around €55 million in unpaid wages.
The Ligue 1 club expressed disappointment on Thursday, confirming that Mbappé, 25, declined an offer from the French football league’s governing body (LFP) to mediate the matter. PSG welcomed the LFP’s intervention, but with the player’s refusal, the club is now ready to resolve the issue in a legal forum.
The French captain’s dispute stems from a fallout with PSG last year when he refused to extend his contract. French media reports suggest Mbappé is seeking the €55 million he claims to be owed, despite reported agreements last year in which he supposedly waived loyalty bonuses should he leave PSG on a free transfer.
In a statement, PSG highlighted the player’s public and private commitments, which the club insists must be honored, citing the unprecedented benefits Mbappé enjoyed during his seven-year stint in Paris.
“PSG looks forward to presenting all facts in the proper legal forum over the coming months,” the club said, emphasizing the reputational damage caused by the dispute.
Mbappé’s camp has yet to comment on the situation.
