The Rivers state Assembly has sent a warning to the Executive Governor of Rivers state, Mr. Siminilaye Fubura over what it described as double standard in leadership by the governor.
The warnings were contained in a reaction by the speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule during a sitting to confirm former commissioners loyal to former governor, Nyesom Wike for reappointment into Fubara’s cabinet.
“They prefer to send communications to us but refuse to take communications from us”

The speaker accused staff working with the governor of refusing to accept communications from the state Assembly. He emphasized that if such attitude continued, the state assembly would also reject communications from the office of the governor.
“…If this trend continues, we will cease to receive communications from the governor.” Amaewhule stated.

River state: A Tumoil of Political Crisis, A Divided Assembly and A Distracted Governor
REPORT AFRIQUE earlier reported on the political tussle that rocked the state between November, 2023 to early January, 2024. Disagreements between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike escalated to a state-wide crisis, later involving loyalists to both leaders.
The crisis culminated in 9 commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet, loyal to Wike, resigning their positions and 27 members of the state assembly, also loyal to Wike, defecting to the All Progressive Congress (APC) from the governor’s party – the PDP.
A truce at the instance of President Tinubu restored temporary sanity to the Rivers state political sphere. However, while implementing a resolution, allegedly forced on Fubara, which made up part of the agreement for peace chaired by the president, subtle issues of disagreements between the two quarters continue to evolve.
