Protesters gathered today at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, expressing their support for Acting National Chairman Umar Damagun and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike.
Carrying placards adorned with various messages, the demonstrators voiced their backing for the duo amidst internal turmoil within the party.
The protest unfolded just ahead of significant party meetings, including the PDP Governors Forum and the National Executive Committee (NEC) gathering, slated to discuss leadership concerns.
Recent calls for the resignation of the National Working Committee (NWC) over alleged mismanagement prompted the rally, as members sought to counter disaffection among the leadership.
In response to mounting pressures, the NWC convened and passed a vote of confidence in Damagun, underscoring its commitment to the party’s stability and growth.
This vote, following the 584th meeting at the party’s National Secretariat, praised Damagun’s efforts to realign the PDP as Nigeria’s principal opposition force.
Simultaneously, Senator Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, former PDP Chairman, withdrew his appeal against his removal from the party’s helm. His decision, announced on the eve of the upcoming NEC meeting, marks a pivotal moment as the PDP navigates internal challenges and strives for unity.
