Former PDP Deputy National Chairman Warns of National Conflagration

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has sounded the alarm over the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, urging elders and stakeholders of the party to intervene before it engulfs the nation.

Chief George expressed grave concern over the threat to democracy posed by the current turmoil in Rivers State, warning that any further escalation could have dire consequences for Nigeria’s democratic stability.

In a statement issued on Friday, Chief George specifically cautioned against the looming impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara by some lawmakers in the state House of Assembly, noting that such actions could exacerbate tensions and lead to widespread unrest.

Citing constitutional provisions, Chief George asserted that lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have automatically forfeited their seats, thus invalidating any attempts to impeach Governor Fubara.

Emphasizing the need for swift and decisive action, Chief George called upon the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP to exercise their influence and resolve the crisis before it spirals out of control.

He further appealed to all stakeholders, regardless of party affiliation, to prioritize the collective interests of Nigerians and refrain from making provocative statements that could further inflame tensions in Rivers State.

Chief Bode George concluded by issuing a stern warning against any actions that could jeopardize Nigeria’s democracy, urging immediate measures to restore peace and stability, ending the Rivers crisis
