The Federal Government has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the $300 helicopter landing levy at aerodromes, helipads, and airstrips.
This decision was made after a meeting between the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the executives of Airline Operators of Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Press, Odutayo Oluseyi, the suspension took effect from May 30, 2024.
The levy had been mandated by the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, with NAEBI Dynamic Concept Limited tasked with collecting the fee on behalf of the Federal Government.
However, the introduction of the levy had raised concerns among petroleum labour unions, who feared it could disrupt the operations of the oil and gas industry.
In response, Keyamo established a committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, its relevant agencies, Airline Operators of Nigeria, International Oil Companies, and NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd.
The committee has been tasked with addressing the concerns raised by stakeholders and is expected to submit a report by the end of June.
The suspension of the levy is seen as a temporary measure to allow for further consultation and resolution of the issues surrounding the introduction of the fee.
